Aurora in the Sky - Ibex Valley, Yukon

Night of 11 April 2014

A polar geomagnetic storm opened a crack in the earth's magnetosphere on April 11. The result was good aurora viewing. The sky was clear of clouds too. However, the bright moon created some challenges with photographing the aurora.

A few minutes before midnight, the lights were showing off.

Aurora
To the east

I moved down the driveway to get a better view to the east.
As I was walking, the lights to the northeast caught my attention.

To the northeast, looking over the edge of the cabin

Then I set the tripod with a good view to the east, towards Whitehorse.

The colour was moving quickly. I looked directly up, and quickly adjusted the camera too.

Around 2 a.m. there were some more colours, but soft and to the north only.
