Haines Road, Yukon

24 June 2008 p.m.

We turned right at Haines Junction to head south on the Haines Road, with the goal of camping overnight at Million Dollar Falls Yukon Gov't campground. The Haines Road is beautiful, but often overcast and windy.  Even so, the photo opportunities are plentiful!

The campground at Million Dollar Falls was closed.  No signs were posted to indicate why, although we assumed it was due to bear activity in the area.  Before hitting the road we ventured down a short side road across the river from the Million Dollar Falls campground entrance to take a short break. The road led to a riverside spot that would make a great boondock spot.

We debated staying but there were some ugly clouds to the north of our lovely spot and it was getting chilly. We thought it would be nice to have a campfire and we were without firewood.  So we continued on our way, backtracking north to the Dezadeash Lake Yukon Gov't campground, AND free firewood.

There were only two others sites occupied.  The night was quiet, except for the wind.
